Juan Andrade Cetto

Interview with Juan Andrade Cetto

Juan Andrade Cetto is the Director of the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics, CSIC-UPC, which belongs to the area of Physical Science and Technology. Doctor by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, MSc in Electric Engineering at the Purdue University (USA) and Graduated in Electric Engineering by the University of Cetys (Mexico). The research lines in which he works: mobile robotics and perception systems in robotics.

What is the reason for and duration of your visit?

I came to work for the whole week as an expert evaluator of European projects of the Research and Innovation Framework Programme Horizon 2020.

Is this a casual visit or do you come to Brussels often?

Casual.

Other European projects in which you participate:

  • AEROARMS – Aerial robotics system integrating multiple arms and advanced manipulation capabilities (H2020-ICT-2014-1-644271)
  • LOGIMATIC – Tight integration of EGNSS and on-board sensors for port vehicle automation (H2020-Galileo-2015-1-687534)
  • CARGO-ANTS – Cargo handling by automated next generation transportation systems for ports and terminals (FP7-SST-2013-RTD-1-605598)

How did you find this experience? Would you recommend it to other researchers of the CSIC?

The European Union has fostered the creation of public-private partnerships (PPPs) for the elaboration of the strategic research agendas, among other things, within the Research and Innovation Framework Programme Horizon 2020. In some instruments, such as innovation actions (IA) or research and innovation actions (RIA), the EU considers the relevance of project initiatives to be highly important within these agendas. Those researchers that wish to participate in or lead projects within these instruments must know this situation, and for those who do not participate directly in PPPs, a good way of doing so is to participate as an expert evaluator as well.
